There comes a time when many of us need extra help in our daily lives. You may be less sure on your feet, unable to take care of yourself properly or perhaps become forgetful in a way that may cause our loved ones to become concerned.
You may have an illness or recently had an operation. You know you need help, but often, you may be reluctant to admit it, particularly if it means going into a care home. We understand you have your dignity, privacy and proud independence to consider. We know that no matter how frail or sick we become we will always be happier at home, but sometimes we must reluctantly accept help.
Abacus can help you with respite care and for a short period of time, look after you. We will give you a place of safety and security while your carer and/or yourself enjoy a break and provide you with companionship/friendship.
Abacus offers 24 hour Residential care which includes waking night staff and an individual approach to support, personal care and a range of social activities with trips out. We provide help with bathing, dressing and the administration of medication, call the doctor or district nurse when necessary and make sure that you get to any Hospital appointments.
Home cooked meals are available and we will endeavour to cater for your particular dietary needs. We have a large enclosed, secure garden for you to relax in, a lift to the second floor, on site laundry facilities, hairdresser, 2 lounges and 3 dining rooms. Visits from families and friends are welcome at any time.
We do not have a respite room available on a permanent basis, we can offer respite if a room is available at the time. We advise that you ring a week in advance to see if we have a room available, unfortunately we cannot book rooms in advance.
RESPITE CARE, WHAT DO I DO NEXT ?
You are welcome to visit Abacus at any time or contact Abacus by phone or e-mail. We will be pleased to help you with your enquiry. We will need to know the dates you require for respite. If you have a Social Worker, we will require a copy of your support plan. We will also carry out our own assessment to accurately assess if we can meet your needs. If we cannot, we will let you know as soon as possible.
